Dr. Lyman Polk Woollens joins FHP Health Center
Dr. Lyman Polk Woollens recently joined FHP Health Center. Woollens brings experience from his career in family medicine and military service. He previously served as a Lieutenant Commander in the Medical Corps of the United States Navy from 2018 to 2025. His dedication to providing exceptional care to military families and his leadership in healthcare delivery have made him a trusted and respected physician.
He completed his residency in Family Medicine at St. Mark’s Family Medicine Residency in Utah, where he led impactful quality improvement projects, including initiatives to enhance Hepatitis C screening and prediabetes treatment. He also stood as both co-chief of his residency class and the resident physician representative for the Utah Academy of Family Physicians.
Dr. Woollens earned his Doctor of Medicine from the University of North Carolina School of Medicine, where he was recognized for his commitment to rural health and global outreach through projects such as Proyecto Puentes de Salud in Mexico. His academic achievements include membership in the Gold Humanism Honor Society and the John B. Graham Research Society.
Prior to medical school, Woollens graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Engineering from North Carolina State University. There he pursued research in cellular mechanics and regenerative medicine.
Beyond his clinical expertise, Woollens has demonstrated leadership as Senior Medical Officer at NMRTC Bremerton, where he provided medical guidance for operational procedures and led committees focused on CPR/Rapid Response and antibiotic stewardship. His service extends to community engagement, including providing physician coverage for sports teams, martial arts and boxing championships, as well as serving as a primary care provider for long-term patients at nursing and rehabilitation facilities.
Dr. Woollens is a proud husband and father of two and also an adventurer and outdoor enthusiast, with interests ranging from rock climbing and mountaineering to cycling and running. His passion for the outdoors reflects his holistic approach to health and wellness.
