What you need to know about lung cancer - November 15, 2024

Lung cancer remains one of the most prevalent forms of cancer worldwide. In the United States alone, it’s the second most common cancer in both men and women, surpassed only by prostate and breast cancer, respectively. Sadly, it’s also the leading cause of cancer-related death, claiming 132,000 lives in the U.S. in 2022. On Guam, we face a similar threat. These statistics highlight not only the need for more education, but also aggressive action.

Understanding diabetic retinopathy - November 27, 2024

Diabetic retinopathy is a common complication of diabetes that affects the eyes.It’s important for those living with diabetes to understand its implications and how to prevent and manage it effectively. Diabetic retinopathy occurs when high blood sugar levels damage the blood vessels in the retina, the light-sensitive tissue at the back of the eye. Over time, these blood vessels can weaken, bulge, or leak, leading to vision problems.
